Fried Mushrooms are a must-have appetizer for us whenever we go out. However, we can now make them at home using an air fryer. Which not only saves us money but also helps us cut down on calories. Additionally, this recipe is incredibly adaptable, just like many of our other recipes.
Some other enjoyable appetizers that can be made in an air fryer include: goat cheese balls, pesto shrimp, coconut shrimp, crab rangoons, salmon rangoons, and meatball madness.
With each satisfying bite of these mushrooms, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the crispiness and juicy, meaty texture. And just when you thought it couldn't get any better, the cayenne spice kicks in and tantalizes your taste buds with a tingling sensation in the back of your mouth. To balance out the heat, try pairing these delectable mushrooms with a refreshing dipping sauce like ranch dressing. They're the perfect addition to any game day or party celebration!
Tips to make Air Fryer Fried Mushrooms
You can either air fry or bake these mushrooms, but air frying is quicker. Alternatively, you could deep fry them. Here are some tips for making fried mushrooms:
- To ensure that all dirt is removed, rinse the mushrooms under cold water and dry them with a paper towel.
- To ensure that the mushrooms are easy to eat, cut them into bite-sized pieces. Halving or quartering them, especially if they are on the larger side.
- To make the process easier and less messy, you can insert toothpicks into some of the mushrooms. This will help to keep your fingers clean and allow you to move the mushrooms more easily from the flour to the eggs to the panko. Simply keep the toothpicks in the mushrooms for the next round.
Bread the Mushrooms
- For complete coverage, submerge the mushrooms in a ⅓ cup bowl or measuring cup filled with the egg and milk mixture
- To get ready, pour the flour mixture into a small bowl and put the panko in a separate small bowl.
- Next, dip the mushrooms in the flour mixture, followed by the egg, and finally, the panko.
- After coating all the mushrooms, they are ready to be air fried or baked. If you choose to air fry, make sure to spray the basket with cooking spray. Then add the panko mushrooms to the fryer. Remember to also spray the mushrooms with cooking spray, either using butter or olive oil spray as preferred.
Air Fry the Mushrooms
- For optimal crispiness, air fry for exactly 8 minutes at a temperature of 375 degrees. If the outside isn't quite crispy enough, add an extra minute or two to the cooking time.
- Keep in mind that air fryers can vary, so it may take some experimentation to find the perfect cooking time.
- If baking in the oven, preheat to 375 degrees and bake for approximately 15 minutes. Or until they have the desired crispiness.
- These mushrooms are absolutely delicious and we often can't resist enjoying them straight out of the air fryer. Just be careful as they can be quite hot, and if you don't wait a few minutes, you run the risk of burning the roof of your mouth. We highly recommend ranch or blue cheese dressings as they perfectly complement the flavor of the mushrooms. Another great option would be a cheesy dip. We're curious to know which sauce you prefer!
