So we just moved into our new house, and we LOVE it! But it is Christmas, and the holidays can be stressful even without a move. We had to immediately start by having a fence installed. It's now complete, so the dogs can stop begging to go out every 5 minutes. Before the fence was done, we had to take all 4 dogs out on a leash EVERY TIME they wanted out... Which was a lot! Now that the fence is in, we don't have to be out there with them...They go out 3, maybe 4 times a day! The other day, we were both outside grilling, and we looked around and realized all 4 dogs were in the house! The door is open, and they all decide it's no fun if they can just come in and out as they please.
It's hard moving around the holidays because you don't really get the chance to unpack before you start decorating for Christmas. We moved a little too early to unpack and set up the Christmas decorations immediately, so we had to balance unpacking enough to make it feel like home, but knowing full well we would have to put away some of the items in order to decorate for Christmas. So, we dug through our boxes and found all of our Christmas decorations and got them ready in order to ring in the season.
New Year, New House, New Traditions
This year, we even started a new tradition. We are a little flamingo obsessed! We've been this way ever since Elvis decided his FAVORITE toy was this flat pink flamingo toy he would toss around the yard and sometimes bury. So, we got a small white artificial tree (our "main" tree is a real one) and some pink blinking lights. Then, my mom ordered some TOTALLY adorable flamingo ornaments. Now, we have a "flamingo tree"! I love it; it stands in our dining room and is one of my new favorite Christmas decorations. Who am I kidding I could never pick a favorite, but if I did, it would be this tree.
Even though we moved, and we're trying to stay on our weight loss track, we are keeping a few of our old traditions. For example, we always have cinnamon rolls right after we wake up and then egg sandwiches (usually bacon, egg, and cheese) after a few hours. This year, we are breaking from our normal Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole dinner for something a little different. We think maybe lamb, definitely mashed potatoes (I never pass up an opportunity to eat mashed potatoes), and a spinach dish that we just LOVE. As always, I know it will be lots of fun and filled with laughs and love.
Decorating Outside
Now, so that you know, I go a little "Clark Griswold" when it comes to outdoor decorations and would absolutely LOVE it if I could put lights ALL OVER the roof. I'm still working on my fear of heights ...But I'm close! This year, we decided not to put that many outdoor decorations up, as we have been painting and organizing. You know, all the fun parts of moving.
Still Can't Believe It's Already Christmas
I think because of all the unpacking and reorganizing, well, just finding that perfect spot for everything, it just hasn't felt like Christmas this year. We have done all of our shopping and decorated the house and tree. Presents have bows under the tree, and there was even snow on the ground the other day. It still has not hit us that Christmas is only 4 (WOW 4!) days away! Don't get me wrong, I'm super excited, I feel like it's some calendar mess up, and it's actually September.
We hope you all enjoy your Christmas and Holiday Season. Cheers!
