I think my favorite thing about going to a Mexican restaurant for Lunch (or Dinner) is an Ice Cold Beer with a nice fresh basket of tortilla chips. Yes, I always eat way too many chips. We figured making homemade Air Fryer Tortilla Chips would have to be better (and lower in calories) than buying a bag of chips at the grocery store. Also, we can get our tortilla chip fix in between visits to our favorite Mexican restaurant.
Homemade Air Fryer Tortilla Chips
These homemade air fryer tortilla chips can be made with white or yellow corn tortillas. I prefer yellow . . . don't ask me why I have no idea. Haha. When we first made these chips we decided to try them with some slightly stale tortillas we had in the pantry. They turned out great. Actually, they were so good we had to make more chips!!! The next batch was with fresh corn tortillas. They turned out just as good and both batches had a great crunch and flavor.
We have also made the chips in the oven. They are really good but not as crispy as in the Air Fryer. The flavor is definitely there, it's just that the air fryer circulates the air and evenly cooks the chips.
How to make them
Cut the tortillas in triangle shapes or strips. Whichever shape you prefer. Toss the chips with some oil. Place in the air fryer. Fry to 8 minutes. Toss around. Fry for an additional 6 minutes. Toss again. Depending on the air fryer, the chips might need an additional 2 minutes to have a nice crunch. Toss with some salt and serve. So simple and sooooooo good!!!!!!
These chips are great to serve with your favorite salsa, or cheese dip. They have a nice light flavor with a great crunch. The best part, you know what's in the chips, and they aren't cooked in a ton of oil.
TIP:
Remember every air fryer is a little different. So the cooking time can vary some.
Cut the tortillas in half. Then in half and then into quarters. or until they are the size you want the chips.
Homemade Air Fryer Tortilla Chips
Ingredients
- 14 Corn Tortillas
- 3 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil Or Peanut Oil
- 2 teaspoons Salt Optional
Instructions
- Cut corn tortillas into triangle shapes or strips
- Gently toss the oil on the chips
- Place the chips in the Air Fryer. Fry for 8 minutes at 350 degrees
- Toss chips and Air Fry for an additional 6 minutes at 350 degrees. (If chips aren't crunchy enough, cook for an additional 2 minutes at 350 degrees)
- Sprinkle salt on the chips. This is optional if you don't want the salt to omit this step
- Serve with your favorite salsa or dip. Hey, they're also good alone!!!
