This recipe is a must for all cheese lovers! If you're looking for a snack that is both delicious and irresistibly cheesy, you can't go wrong with mozzarella cheese sticks. These little bites of heaven are made of ooey, gooey, melted mozzarella cheese that will make your taste buds dance with joy. And the best part? You can quickly whip them up at home with just a few simple ingredients.
These Mozzarella cheese sticks are way better than the frozen store-bought version, and the flavor is out of this world. We cooked ours in the air fryer, giving them a perfect crispy texture outside and a warm, melted center. But if you don't have an air fryer, don't worry - you can also bake them in the oven. So why not give these homemade mozzarella cheese sticks a try? They're the perfect snack for any occasion and are sure to make your day a little bit brighter.
For this recipe, we used mozzarella string cheese sticks and then double-breaded them for a crispy crunch on the outside, which is nice and cheesy on the inside.
Cheesey Treats
You'll love these cheese sticks - they're easy to make and ready in just a few minutes. Plus, if you freeze them, you'll always have a yummy snack on hand! We usually make a large amount of cheese sticks at one time and toss them in the freezer so they are always available.
We usually go for the mozzarella string cheese, but we've also tried cutting blocks of mozzarella cheese into strips, which is a little cheaper. The only downside is they might not look as perfect as the string cheese. They still taste amazing. . . no matter how they look!
How to make this Mozzarella cheese sticks recipe
We like to cut the cheese sticks to about two inches long. If using mozzarella string cheese, just cut them in half. Beat the egg until the white and yellow parts are mixed completely.
Tip: The eggs beat together better if they are at room temperature.
Mix together the panko, oregano, garlic powder, and cornstarch, and if you want it spicy, add cayenne pepper.
We like to double-coat this cheese.
Dip the Cheese in the egg and then in the panko mixture. Then, dip it back into the egg and back into the panko mixture. Make sure to coat the entire cheese stick. We found that if the cheese stick isn't completely coated the cheese will seep out in the air fryer.
TIP: Freezing the mozzarella cheese sticks can be done at this step. To do so, place them in an airtight container or freezer bag and store them in the freezer until you're ready to enjoy. This will help preserve their freshness and ensure they last longer.
To enjoy a delicious snack of this cheesy goodness, you have several cooking options available. You can use an air fryer, oven, or convection oven to cook them to perfection. We have found that air frying works best for getting the desired level of crispiness and flavor.
Before cooking, spray the breaded cheese with cooking spray. This will ensure that the breading becomes crispy and golden brown without sticking to the surface. If you are using an air fryer, preheat it to 375 degrees and then cook the cheese sticks for around 8 minutes.
NOTE: Every air fryer is different, and you may need to adjust the cooking time slightly based on your machine's settings.
Once cooked, remove the cheese sticks from the air fryer or oven and let them cool for a minute or two. Then, serve them hot and enjoy the crunchy exterior and warm, gooey melted cheese inside.
We like to serve them with a store-bought Marinara Sauce. Just buy your favorite sauce.
Enjoy!!!!!
