Cheesy Meatball Pizza knots
Who doesn't love pizza? We love it any time of the day!!! But having pizza at a party can be a bit of a challenge. Unless it’s a pizza party!! Luckily, we have a delicious solution: pizza knots! They're perfect for game-day parties and cocktail parties, and because we make them with ground turkey, they are lower in calories. Yum!
I have to admit, the appetizers may not look the most appetizing, but trust me, they taste amazing. Here’s what we did to make this recipe.
Changes to the Pizza knots recipe
To cut back on a few calories, we used an extra thin pizza crust to reduce the amount of dough around each meatball. Homemade turkey meatballs were made so we could control the amount of oil used, and we used all of our favorite spices.
For a healthier option when making meatballs, we use 99% fat-free turkey as a base. To add a burst of flavor, they are stuffed with low-fat mozzarella cheese and chopped mushrooms. This combination not only reduces calories but also creates an earthy taste that tricks your taste buds into thinking you're eating the classic ground beef meatball.
We find it’s so easy and fun to make homemade meatballs. However, store-bought meatballs can also be used in this recipe.
Meatballs
Meatballs are an all-time favorite for any party, and we take pride in serving the best ones. Our meatballs are made up of 99% fat-free meat, which makes them both healthy and delicious. What makes them stand out is the addition of finely chopped Bella mushrooms and roasted garlic, which add a burst of flavor and juiciness to every bite.
We filled the meatballs with mozzarella cheese, resulting in a deliciously gooey and juicy cheese-filled meatball.
Now, add the meatballs to the pizza dough to create delicious pizza meatball knots.
I hope you enjoy these meatballs and pizza knots as much as we do. We almost ate the entire plate of pizza knots within 15 minutes. . . it wasn’t a pretty sight! They were delicious and paired perfectly with an ice-cold beer.
Tips:
- Use 99% fat-free Ground Turkey.
- If you cannot find 99% fat-free ground turkey, you can buy a turkey breast and grind the meat yourself. This actually saves some money usually, a turkey breast is less per pound than ground turkey meat.
- A thin crust pizza crust cuts calories over a thick pizza crust.
- Prepare the meatballs in advance and freeze them for convenience.

Building pizza rolls
- It is important to refrigerate the pizza dough until it is ready to use. Roll out the dough on parchment paper.
- Cut the pizza dough into thirds lengthwise.
- We bought Rao's (my favorite). Spread it on the pizza dough
- To prepare the pizza, sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top of the pizza sauce.
- Put the meatballs on the pizza dough, positioning them near the edge.
- Roll the dough over the meatballs using the parchment paper.
- Gently remove the parchment from the dough.
- Cut the dough between each meatball.
- Crimp the dough around each meatball and place it on a foil-lined baking sheet. Repeat the process with the remaining dough. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top of the pizza rolls.
- Bake the pizza rolls per the package directions. Usually 12 to 15 minutes
- Serve with a cold beer or a nice glass of wine. SO GOOD! Enjoy!!!
