Popcorn should be one of the main food groups!!!
As long as I can remember, I have loved popcorn. I have fond memories of sitting beside my Dad as we enjoyed popcorn while watching our favorite Western TV show, Bonanza. Yes, I'm dating myself!!! But as a kid, to get to sit with my Dad was the world's greatest time of day. Everyone was always so busy on the farm that we really valued those times. My Dad and I would have popcorn dripping with butter and salt. Oh my, so good! But adding Tabasco brings popcorn to a whole new level.
Well, I took my love of popcorn into adult life. I can remember one of my first big off-site management meetings. We had a cocktail hour, and there was this popcorn machine. Well, you guessed it, I was all over that thing. I really didn't drink much, but I was putting down some popcorn. I will never forget my boss calling across the bar, "Hey, Popcorn Piggy." Would you mind grabbing some for me? You know he would be in HR today for that comment! I mean, they used to tell me I was their "token female," so, yes, a lot has changed in corporate life. I brought it to him, and we all had a great laugh. And I had a nickname.
Vacation and popcorn
Right after I received my new "nickname," my best friend and I decided to take a vacation to Myrtle Beach. This was a big deal; we were both single moms and had very little money, AND it was a 14-hour drive with 3 little kids. I borrowed my brother's CB for the trip. Ok, I keep dating myself. Yes, for those of you too young to remember, CBs were really cool in the early 80s!!!! And there weren't any cell phones. Of course, we had to have popcorn for the road trip. We drove all night so the kids could sleep. I got bored at one point and started talking on the CB. Oh, you had to have a handle. So yes, you guessed it, mine was "Popcorn Piggy". We were driving and talking away when one of the truckers on the CB said, "Hey, Popcorn Piggy, are you Charlie's daughter?". OMG, we were in North Carolina, and someone from Ohio recognized my voice! It’s a small world out there!!!! How did this person recognize my voice!!! Needless to say, my friend Paula and I had some great laughs on that trip.
This trip to NC was almost as much fun as Amy and I had when we rented an RV for house hunting. We still laugh about the silly things we did on that trip.
Adding Tabasco
I so wish my Dad was still with us for so many reasons, but it would be so much fun to share the Tabasco Popcorn with him. My Dad loved spicy food. I'm sure that is where I got my love for spicy foods and for always trying to find new ways of making something spicy. I mean, my Dad used to take white bread, spread butter on it, add hot pickled peppers, and top it with another piece of bread. Or sometimes he would put honey and hot peppers together. . . way before anyone had sweet and sour dishes.
So here is my new favorite obsession
Fix Popcorn your favorite way. . . on the cooktop, microwave, or my favorite out of the bag!!! Sprinkle on Tabasco and add some salt. Open a cold Beer and enjoy. This is so good! Add as much as you want. I have found the diet popcorn isn't good, and it makes everything soggy. I recommend Smartfood, it holds the Tabasco and is so good!
Just add the amount of Tabasco you want.
Toss!
Turn on your favorite TV show, get with your favorite person or people and build some fun memories.
This would also be good for a party or game day!!!
