Making Apple Donut Holes in an Air Fryer
We love experimenting with desserts, but we often struggle with not devouring them all at once. However, we've discovered a recipe that satisfies our sweet tooth without making us feel guilty. We've tested two versions of this recipe, one with butter and milk and the other with non-fat yogurt. The butter and milk version was absolutely delicious, while the yogurt version had fewer calories but tasted more like yogurt than apples. Nevertheless, both versions had an amazing texture that made us crave for more.
We highly recommend using Granny Smith apples for this recipe. Their tart flavor and firm texture make them the perfect choice for donut holes. Make sure to remove the seeds for everyone's safety, including your furry friends. If you have a dog, they'll surely appreciate some apple slices as a tasty treat.
In order to prepare the mixture, simply combine flour, 2 tablespoons of sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. After that, proceed to add the butter.
TIP: A useful technique is to cut the butter into small pieces before mixing it into the flour. This will significantly facilitate the mixing process
Making the dough is a breeze. You can start by adding the milk and apples to a mixing bowl. Then, sprinkle some flour on your counter and knead the mixture for a few minutes until it forms a ball-like shape.
Creating apple donut holes is a breeze. Simply form the dough into small balls and line the air fryer basket with parchment paper. Place the donut holes on top, give them a quick spritz of cooking spray, and air fry at 375 degrees for 7 to 9 minutes. You'll be left with a scrumptious and effortless treat to enjoy!
TIP: For a hassle-free cooking experience, we recommend to use parchment paper when making apple donut holes in an air fryer. Not only does this prevent them from sticking to the basket, but it also makes cleaning up a breeze!
As the apple donut holes cook in the air fryer, combine the sugar and cinnamon.
TIP: We have found that Saigon Cinnamon has a really pleasant flavor and is our preferred choice when it comes to cinnamon. Interestingly, both of us used to avoid using cinnamon in our cooking but now we use this particular type exclusively.
For best results, sprinkle your freshly made donut holes with cinnamon sugar. If the sugar doesn't quite stick, try giving your apple donut holes a quick spray with butter cooking spray before tossing them again with the cinnamon sugar.
How about treating yourself to some mouth-watering apple donut holes garnished with luscious whipped cream?
