Light and Flavorful Shrimp and Snow Peas
This is a recipe we have had for over 20 years. In the original Shrimp and Snow Peas recipe, the Shrimp are fried in oil for a few minutes. We reimagined the recipe by using an Air Fryer. This is a great way to cut a lot of calories and air fryer shrimp doesn't change the flavor of the dish.
I know it's easy to get Chinese takeout and trust me, we love to get takeout, but this Air Fryer Shrimp and Snow Peas Recipe is so simple you won't want to go out!!!
Cooking Chinese food at home is a ton of fun and you can cut ingredients like the amount of salt. For example, use low-sodium soy sauce instead of regular soy sauce. In this recipe, we cut out almost all of the oil and there was no difference in the flavor. In fact, I think the Shrimp actually tasted better being cooked in the Air Fryer.
Having fun making Chinese dishes
One night, several years ago, I decided to invite over 8 of our closest friends for dinner. You guessed it, I made Chinese dishes. Just to make it challenging I made 10 different dishes plus rice. Everything turned out great, but wow was my kitchen a crazy mess when I finished. It's amazing how many plates, saucers, bowls, cups, etc you use when making Chinese food.
The trick for making multiple recipes
Many Chinese recipes have two steps AND two methods of cooking. Prepare sauces and chop all veggies in advance to make the actual cooking steps really easy and a lot faster
- Get out all the ingredients for the recipes. Make the sauces for each dish and set them aside (don't forget to label the sauce to what dish the sauce will be used for ).
- Chop the veggies needed for each dish. And don't forget to label which veggie goes with each dish.
- Clean the Garlic and grate the Ginger (depending on what you're making several dishes may need garlic and ginger). We have gotten into the habit of chopping ginger in the food processor and storing it in the freezer for several months.
After completing these steps cooking the majority of the dishes are usually very quick - less than 10 minutes.

How we changed this Air Fryer Shrimp and Snow Peas recipe
Making this Air Fryer Shrimp and Snow Peas recipe is extremely simple. It's amazing how good the shrimp are when using the air fryer. The original recipe called for the Shrimp to be deep-fried in peanut oil.
We put them into the air fryer for 6 minutes. They were perfect. After finishing the air frying they go into the stir fry with the sauces and snow peas.
Heat the oil and add the garlic and ginger.
The original recipe called for 1 Tablespoon of oil, we cut it back to ½ Tablespoon. I know cutting a ½ Tablespoon of oil doesn't sound like much of a cut but every little bit makes a difference, and the extra oil isn't needed!!!
Sauté the snow peas with the garlic and ginger for a couple of minutes.
The Sauce will be added and then the Shrimp. Stir to let the sauce coat the shrimp and snow peas, and serve. The total cooking time is about 8 minutes and 6 of that is the Shrimp in the air fryer.
The flavors in this dish are just amazing and so light and flavorful.
Serve it with Rice and Chinese Broccoli Stir Fry. This is a dish the entire family will love AND they WILL NOT know it's low in calories. The cool part is you can almost eat as much of this as you want. And trust me you will want to have a big serving!!!
This Air Fryer Shrimp and Snow Peas Recipe is addicting and I'm sure will become one of your favorite recipes.
