Yes, you read this right........ Bacon Gravy!!! (YUM!!!!) Hey, I love bacon, but it's not an everyday food. A perfect day for me is starting out with biscuits topped with bacon or sausage gravy, a bloody mary, and watching the Browns and Pat's win a football game while snacking on spicy popcorn.
For a leisurely weekend morning meal or midday brunch, I highly recommend trying out this delicious recipe. It's a personal favorite of mine, especially when paired with biscuits or mashed potatoes. In fact, this dish has become somewhat of a birthday tradition for me.
This gravy is made by frying bacon in its own grease, creating a roux, and then adding milk to make a creamy gravy. The bacon is included for extra flavor and texture.
TIPS:
- Drain off the majority of the bacon grease
- Measure the amount of gravy you eat. I mean it's good soaking everything in gravy but it isn't necessary.
- Use 1% Milk. It does cut some calories!
- Rember it's ok to have a cheat day/breakfast.
- If the gravy is too thick, it can be thinned down by adding additional milk.
Making this easy Bacon Gravy
Cut the bacon and cook it in a pan or oven on a foil-lined baking sheet. Use about 2 Tablespoons of bacon grease. Add flour to the bacon grease and make a roux. Pour in 1% milk and stir until thickened about 3-5 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste. Try the Bacon gravy to see if it has enough salt and pepper.
NOTE: A paper towel can be used to remove excess bacon grease before adding flour.
Serve the bacon gravy with Country Fried Steak, mashed potatoes, biscuits, or toast.
