This recipe holds a special place in my heart as it brings back fond memories of my childhood. You can use either Bratwurst or Italian Sausage to make it. It's incredibly simple to prepare and ready in no time for a delicious dinner.
When I reminisce about my childhood, one of my fondest memories is spending time with my Dad and our horses. Those experiences have shaped me into the person I am today. My Dad taught me the importance of treating animals with kindness, responsibility, and respect, especially horses. We participated in horse shows and pulling competitions at various fairs in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Whenever we arrived at the fair, my first task was to help unload the horses from the truck. Then, my Dad would give me some money and I knew my job was to locate a lemonade stand and a Sausage Sandwich stand.
My dad and I both enjoyed sausage sandwiches, especially at the fair where it was my job to find the best one. Making the sandwich with Amy brought back fond memories.
Bratwurst with Peppers and Onions
This is a quick and easy dinner that can be served over rice, cauliflower rice or, my personal favorite, on a soft sub roll with sesame seeds. It was absolutely delicious! Although I typically use Italian sausage, I recently discovered some incredible garlic bratwurst that worked perfectly.
I believe those bratwursts were only available in the grocery store during the St. Patrick's Day season, but we have prepared this recipe with beer bratwurst and it turned out to be delicious as well.
Adding French Fries to this dish is a great idea. Our preferred methods of cooking them are baking or air frying, which are both easy and fast. Not only that, but these methods also reduce the calorie content compared to deep fat frying.

Can you tell me how many carbs were in your roll as part of the count? I won’t eat a roll on keto, and wondered what the carb count would be without it. Thank you?

Hi!! We use a website app for the calculations so it is an estimate. The bratwurst with peppers and onions and no roll, is 305 Calories and 11g Carbs. If the roll is added it's 479 Calories and 44G Carbs. So, based on the app we use, the roll would add 33g of carbs. We normally have this without a roll and it's absolutely delicious! 😀
