It's unbelievable how many broccoli stems we throw out without realizing their worth. This recipe has transformed the way I buy broccoli. Earlier, I used to purchase only the broccoli heads, which are more expensive. But not anymore! This Chinese Broccoli Stir Fry Recipe is a game-changer. It may not change your life, but it will undoubtedly make it more delicious. You can use the broccoli head in this recipe, but why not use the entire head of broccoli and stems? It's so good, and this is genuinely an easy broccoli stir-fry recipe. So next time, don't stress over the broccoli stems in your fridge. The best part? Buying a full head of broccoli is usually cheaper than buying just the tops!!!
Broccoli Stir Fryer
I really enjoy using this recipe with most Chinese dishes. However, it also pairs well with Pork Chops or a baked/grilled Chicken Breast. Alternatively, you could make the Chinese Broccoli Stir Fry recipe and serve it with rice for a vegetarian dinner. When we prepare Stir Fry Broccoli stems, we often make Air Fryer Shrimp and Snow peas recipe as well. I have tried this recipe with the broccoli heads, and it is equally delicious.
If using broccoli heads, double the sauce that is listed in this recipe for best results.
Preparing broccoli is easy and only takes about 5 minutes. Follow these simple steps to get it right:
- Cut the ends off the broccoli stems and peel back the outer layer. Then, cut the stems into bite-size pieces.
- Boil lightly salted water in a pot and add the broccoli stems. Cook for 2 minutes or until the broccoli turns bright green and becomes tender.
- If you want to use the broccoli heads, remove the stems from the pot and add the heads. Boil them for no more than 1 minute.
- Save ½ cup of the water for later use. That's it! Your broccoli is now ready to serve.
Stir-fry the ginger for one minute, then add the sauce and cornstarch mixture. Toss the broccoli stems in the sauce and serve.

TIP: Whenever we make Chinese food, we make sure to grab all the seasonings and measure out all the sauces beforehand. Usually, measuring out the spices takes up most of the time when making Chinese food.

Broccoli Stir Fry Recipe You have to Try
Ingredients
- 6 Ounces Broccoli stems Or Broccoli Heads
- ½ Tablespoon Olive Oil
- 1 teaspoon Grated fresh ginger
- 1 Tablespoon Oyster Sauce
- 1 Tablespoon Light Soy Sauce
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- ½ teaspoon Sesame Oil
- ½ Cup Liquid from blanching the broccoli
- 2 teaspoon Cornstarch (cornflour)
Instructions
- Peel the broccoli stems
- Cut broccoli stems into bite-size pieces
- To prepare the broccoli stems, fill a saucepan with water and add half a teaspoon of salt. Bring the water to a boil, and then add the broccoli stems. Wait for the water to boil again, and cook the stems for 2 minutes or until they turn bright green. Once done, remember to reserve half a cup of the water used for boiling the broccoli stems.
- Heat the ginger in a wok or large pan with olive oil for one minute.
- Add the oyster sauce, soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, and ½ cup of the cooking liquid to the dish, and allow it to boil for a minute.
- Mix 2 tablespoons of water with the cornstarch in a small bowl. Add the cornstarch mixture to the sauce and stir until it thickens. Finally, add the broccoli and mix well.
