Who doesn't love crispy, spicy oven-baked chicken wings? They're so easy to make and absolutely fun to eat! There are tons of different sauces to try with chicken wings. I mean, who doesn't love a good buffalo chicken wing? We've discovered that a basic chicken wing spice and a sweet and spicy sauce really take these wings to the next level. They're perfect for game day, a fun dinner, or an awesome party appetizer!
Season the wings!
We love making wings or chicken fingers (strips from chicken breast) and always try new sauces. It's fun to change up wings so you never get bored with them!!!
I feel like the best wings start with a really good rub. The rub we came up with has onion powder, garlic powder, paprika - for a smoky flavor, cornstarch for crunch, cayenne pepper for spice, and salt just because you need salt!
TIP: Use a great dry rub on the wings to really boost their flavor.
How to make this crispy, spicy chicken wings recipe
I like to cut the wings into pieces. Actually, I like to buy them already cut up. I have only found chicken wings cut into small pieces once! It is funny when we cut the wings; I always select the flat pieces first! The tip to cutting the wings is first to have a large sharp knife. Then, bend the wings at the joints. They will pop, and then they are really easy to cut. I usually toss the wing tip parts in the freezer and use them for homemade broth.
This is a step that can be skipped to make whole wings!
Mix together the spices and toss on the wings. Place the wings on a baking sheet and cook in a 400-degree oven for 20 minutes.
To save on clean-up, we like to line our baking sheets with foil. After the wings are seasoned, spray them with cooking spray. This will help them crisp up without being fried in oil.
Making the sauce:
While the chicken is in the oven, make the sauce for the crispy, spicy wings. Mix together soy sauce, garlic, ginger, garlic chili sauce, cayenne pepper (only if you want some additional spice), honey, hazelnut butter spread or peanut butter, sesame oil, and lime juice.
The sauce might sound strange with ingredients like soy sauce, peanut butter, and garlic chili sauce, but trust me, this works, and the wings have such a fantastic flavor.
For this crispy, spicy chicken wings recipe, I like to flip the wings halfway through cooking them. Not a big deal if they are not flipped.
When the wings are done. Toss them in the sauce and bake for an additional 5 minutes.
Toss on some sesame seeds, and Enjoy!!!!!
