We love spicy food, and these Fireball meatballs are the hottest, spiciest meatballs this side of the Mississippi!!! These spicy meatballs use scorpion peppers, and they definitely live up to expectations! We actually loved them so much that we made them two days in a row. On the second day, we made the meatballs without the peppers. The flavor is great, whether you prefer mild or spicy.
Scoville Scale!!
The Scoville Scale, also known as the Scoville Heat Unit (SHU), measures the spiciness or heat level of peppers. To provide a sense of spiciness, the Scoville Heat Units (SHU) scale rates peppers: Bell Peppers (0 SHU), Anaheim Peppers (500-2,500 SHU), Jalapeno Peppers (2,000-50,000 SHU), Scotch Bonnet and Habaneros (100,000-350,000 SHU), with some Habaneros reaching 577,000 SHU.
Ghost Pepper and Scorpion Pepper (used in Fireball Meatballs) range from 850,000 to 2,000,000 Scoville Heat Units. The Carolina Reaper, the world's hottest pepper, ranges from 1,500,000 to over 2,000,000. NOW THAT'S HOT!!! For more details on Scoville Heat Units, visit the Scoville Scale website.
Making these Spicy Meatballs
This meatball recipe is flavorful and spicy, offering a balance of heat and taste. Often, food is made spicy and lacks a distinct taste other than just being spicy.… It's just hot! These meatballs have a variety of spices that create a fun and enjoyable eating experience for spicy food lovers.
For this recipe, start by purchasing 99% Fat-Free ground turkey or grinding a turkey breast. In a food processor, mix the spices and chop the Scorpion pepper. If using a cutting board, wear gloves.
Mixing the Fireball Meatballs
For the second step, combine ground turkey, spices, and scorpion pepper. Ensure that you wear gloves while mixing as the oil from the peppers can be challenging to wash off and may cause irritation if it comes into contact with your eyes. Trust me, you are going to touch your eyes if you have handled chopped peppers. . . I have proven this theory many times!!!
Combine all the ingredients for the meatball mixture and mix them thoroughly. Shape them into bite-sized balls or shape them as large or small as you want. Just adjust the cooking time depending on the size of the meatballs.
Place the meatballs on a baking sheet and bake in a 400-degree oven for 20 to 25 minutes.
Serve your favorite dipping sauce with fireball meatballs. We love mixing ranch dressing with crumbled blue cheese.
