My Grandma was a great cook and baker. She made the best pies, breads, buns and so many other wonderful dishes! I always had such a great time spending my summers with Grandma and Grandpa. They just made life so much fun and easy. My Grandma made all her baked goods seem so simple to make. She could whip up a pie in no time. One of the great things she taught me was how to make gravy. So many people get nervous about making it during Thanksgiving. So, I decided to share how to make my grandma's a no-fail luscious gravy.
I promise you, this gravy will be be flavorful and a family favorite every time. All you need is the drippings from the turkey (or chicken or a beef roast). Or if you don't have the drippings just use some butter and chicken broth.
Secret to making this Gravy
Shhhhhh. . . Don't tell anyone because this is the key to great gravy. The secret is whisking! Yes, whisking. Once the drippings are warm whisk in flour. Once it has become very thick, add the milk and start to whisk. At this point, just whisk! whisk! whisk! until the gravy is creamy and has the thickness you want.
After the mixture is at the consistency wanted. Add salt and pepper to taste. Don't forget to whisk in the salt and pepper. Yes, in 5 minutes you will have a great topping for those mashed potatoes and stuffing... every single time!
That's it!!!! I have put together a video to show the entire process of making this.
We also have other gravy recipes using sausage and hamburger. It's basically the same process. We usually have these for a Sunday brunch.
Don't tell your family how easy this is to make. Keep it your secret. And make it your contribution to the holidays.
TIPS:
We use 1% milk. This saves a few calories that no one will miss!
NEVER buy bottle gravy!!!!
