This is a recipe we have been working on making for several months and boy did it pay off!!!! I know Tomato and Pesto Ricotta Sauce might not be your normal sauce for a pizza but after having this, it's now my new favorite.
Homemade Pizza
We used our homemade Spicy Pesto and some homemade Tomato Sauce. The sauce is not published yet since we want to make the homemade Pizza sauce again to ensure the exact amounts and fine-tune the recipe. Usually. we purchase pizza sauce and add additional herbs and spices. Below, are some tips for jazzing up jarred pizza sauce.
Next time we make this pizza it's going to be with just cheese and maybe sautéd mushrooms. The pepperoni was delicious but there is so much flavor with the sauce, we think it'll be a great cheese or vegetarian pizza. YUM! Hey, I might even try Italian sausage on it. Please let us know what you add as toppings to this homemade pizza.
Some of our favorite homemade pizzas: Artichoke Dip Pizza, Chicken Cordon Bleu, Mushroom four cheese, Shrimp scampi, Spicy Pesto chicken, BBQ Chicken, and Grilled chicken Caesar salad. Just Search for Pizza to get a complete list of all our homemade pizzas.
TIPS:
For a 14-ounce jar of pizza sauce, we usually add the following:
- Add 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder or 1 Tablespoon roasted garlic
- When we want it SPICY we Chop one Habanero
This adds some additional flavor to the pizza sauce and really makes this homemade pizza extra special.
Pizza Dough
We discovered that making homemade pizza dough is really easy and soooooo worth the time. The flavor and texture of the homemade pizza dough make a huge difference in the pizza. It does take planning when making this dough since it needs to rest for at least 12 hours. We made ours on a Friday and actually made the pizza on Tuesday night. And we got to put half the dough in the freezer. BONUS!
