Looking for a delicious topping for your breakfast, cheesecake, or ice cream? Homemade Strawberry Sauce is the perfect choice! You can even enjoy it as a sweet treat with a cookie. But let's keep that last part a secret from Amy, okay? Trust me, it's amazing on a sugar cookie with some whipped cream on top. I just want to keep it all to myself. Haha
Crafting your own strawberry or blueberry sauce is a breeze and can be accomplished using either fresh or frozen fruit. Personally, I relish rising early and whipping up one of these delectable sauces to enhance my breakfast routine.
Summer Fresh Strawberries (and blueberries)
Fresh fruit is always a welcomed sight in our area, and we are grateful when it finally arrives. As Ohio residents, we often feel like one of the last to savor the taste of fresh strawberries, but we never miss an opportunity to indulge in their sweetness. Our top priority is always concocting a strawberry-based drink, whether it be with vodka or a blueberry twist. As we savor our beverages, we love to brainstorm new recipes that incorporate the goodness of fresh fruits.
I firmly believe that Ohio strawberries and blueberries are absolutely the best. While it may take some patience to get your hands on them, their sweetness is unmatched.
How to make Homemade Strawberry Sauce
This recipe is both easy to make and absolutely worth it. Even though we rarely have leftovers, it can be stored in the fridge for up to five days.
Remember to rinse the strawberries with cool water before use, and remove the green tops. We generally slice the berries, but they can also be chopped into smaller pieces for quicker cooking. Personally, I prefer the larger strawberry slices.
To create the strawberry sauce, combine the chopped/sliced strawberries, sugar, lemon juice, and a little water.
Place a saucepan over medium heat and cook for 8-10 minutes. Once done, remove from heat and blend in the vanilla extract.
This is a delicious topping that goes well with pancakes, French toast, or waffles for breakfast. It's also great over ice cream, cheesecake, or even cookies! Enjoy!
