Turkey Feta meatballs are great for snacks
We always used to rely on frozen meatballs for spaghetti and appetizers. However, we recently discovered that they are pretty high in calories. So, we decided to get creative and whip up our own turkey meatballs that are perfect for our diet.
Should I use 99% fat-free ground turkey?
Yes! Cooking with 99% fat-free ground turkey is like a blank canvas for flavor! You can add the spices you like, and before you know it, you have a delicious bite! If you're worried about turkey drying out, we find that adding stuff like spinach or ground mushrooms creates a super juicy meatball (or burger) and DOES NOT taste like spinach or mushrooms. It just adds moisture.
You can usually find ground turkey at the grocery store. We found that buying a turkey breast and grinding it on our own is both super easy and economical. We use our Kitchen Aid stand mixer similar to this: KitchenAid® Artisan® 5 qt. Stand Mixer with the food grinder attachment.
Turkey Feta Meatballs are so good!!!
Greek-inspired turkey Feta meatballs are so delicious! The six easy ingredients include turkey, cumin, spinach (to keep them juicy), feta cheese (feta is betta!), salt, and pepper. You won't believe how good these are, and it only takes about 35 minutes from start to finish to make.
They are great to serve with cucumbers and low-fat ranch dressing, or you can make a Tzatziki sauce. If you're unfamiliar, tzatziki sauce is a Greek yogurt sauce made with cucumber, lemon, and garlic and served with bread or meats. It's a refreshing sauce that perfectly complements these meatballs.
Homemade Tzatziki sauce is straightforward to make!! We did cut a few calorie corners to make this sauce slightly healthier.
- Chop a cucumber
- Sprinkle ½ teaspoon of salt on chopped cucumber and stir well.
- Squeeze the cucumber with your hands to remove the excess moisture and drain.
- Stir in 1 and ½ cups of fat-free plain Greek yogurt with the cucumbers
- Add the juice of half a lemon (add more to taste)
- Stir in 2 cloves of finely chopped garlic
- Stir in 2 Tbs chopped fresh dill (optional)
- Salt and Pepper to taste
- Stir well
- Taste to see if you need more lemon or salt. Remember, you can always add more seasoning... You can't take it out!!! So it's better to start with less, taste, and add more if needed.
- Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
The Turkey Feta Meatballs freeze great. So you can make them ahead of time and enjoy them anytime!
Other meatballs we love to make:
We have made several other wonderful meatball recipes. Our Buffalo Chicken Meatball recipe is so good to serve with blue cheese dressing and celery, and it really does fix ANY chicken wing cravings without the calories. One of our other favorite recipes is for Pizza Meatball Knots. If you're hungry for a pizza, these will meet and maybe even exceed your expectations. The problem with Pizza Knots is that they're hard to stop eating. 🙂
If you want a meatball that can be added to spaghetti, I suggest trying our Italian Turkey meatball. These are stuffed with mozzarella, so they are ooeey gooey cheesy! They're fantastic in spaghetti or served plain with a side of marinara sauce. Once, we did this fun "experiment" where we made a meatball sandwich with our Italian Meatballs and compared it side-by-side to a Subway meatball sub. Check out our results here.
Please let us know if you try these recipes and if you love them as much as we do.
NOTE: Calories are based on 12 meatballs - 1 meatball per serving.
