Who doesn't love a good meatball? Well, except for vegetarians. Whether it's a party or game day, you can usually find me hovering around the meatball tray. However, indulging in these savory treats often means consuming an excessive amount of calories and a sauce that's dripping with richness. That's why we've come up with a solution: low-calorie meatballs that are still bursting with mouth-watering flavor.
Yes Please!!!
The best thing about these bite-sized treats is how easy they are to prepare and how delicious they taste. We always make extra so we can freeze them for unexpected guests or for a quick and effortless appetizer.
Did you know that you can easily get 99% Fat-Free ground turkey or chicken at the grocery store? However, if you prefer, you can also buy a boneless, skinless chicken breast and grind it at home. Using a Kitchen Aid stand mixer with the food grinder attachment makes the process super easy and delicious.

TIPS/Hacks:
Key fat-cutting, flavor-boosting tips for these recipes:🍗
- Use 99% fat-free turkey or chicken
- To prevent the Turkey/chicken from becoming dry, it's helpful to include spinach, mushrooms, and celery in the recipe as they help keep the turkey or chicken nice and juicy.
- Adding a bit of cheese to enhances their flavor. Pre-measure the cheese.
- Breadcrumbs are not necessary, as they only add extra calories.
- Spices like garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, oregano, and peppers add tons of flavor without the need for added fat. 😀
Review!
Amy and I decided to conduct a taste test between Subway's meatball sandwich and our homemade version. The dogs and I headed to our local Subway and ordered the sandwich. While I was gone, Amy got to work in the kitchen, making our own version of the sandwich. By the time we returned home, the sandwich was ready and waiting for us.
After careful examination, we came to the conclusion that Amy's sandwich boasted a tastier and more complex flavor profile, while also containing fewer calories than its Subway counterpart. Also, we were completely aware of all the ingredients used in our meatball creation.
Overall, it was a fun and flavorful experiment that we both thoroughly enjoyed.
