I officially love a Mushroom Turkey Burger!!! Now, we love a good burger and are always trying to come up with new ways to make burgers. That's why we made this mushroom turkey burger. Don't get me wrong, I love a hamburger topped with American Cheese and, of course, mayo. The best hamburgers have the fattiness of ground chuck and the nice beefy flavor of sirloin. With this easy substitute of turkey and mushrooms, we save approximately 400 calories.
Why Mushrooms?
Adding mushrooms to the turkey boosts the flavors and adds moisture so the turkey burger will be nice and juicy... just like a traditional hamburger. The best part, adding mushrooms cut calories and adds a "meaty" flavor! It even saves money by substituting 25% of the meat with mushrooms! We've made these mushroom turkey burgers for people that only want to eat beef burgers, and they went crazy for them! It's great to hear how much they love the mushroom turkey burger AND that they don't miss the regular burger.
Mushroom Turkey Burger
One of the best purchases we have made is to buy the meat grinder attachment to our kitchen aid. When we want to make burgers, meatloaf, or meatballs we buy a turkey breast or chicken breast. The meat seems like it's fresher tasting and usually costs less per pound. We actually did a side-by-side comparison and made this mushroom turkey burger with ground meat and, a second one, with the meat we ground from some turkey cutlets. Just to see if there was a difference between the two.
We even ground the mushrooms using the Kitchen-aid grinder. It worked great and ground the mushrooms to a perfect mixture. If not using a meat grinder a food processor can also be used to chop the mushrooms
The burgers made with the turkey meat we ground were a little juicer. We also found the burgers with the meat we ground did not shrink as much. The flavor was the same in both burgers. The other bonus we found to grinding your own meat is that you know it's all white meat and skinless. This can also save a few calories. Hey, any savings is good!!! If you're like us, you'll want to be able to enjoy a glass of wine or a beer with that burger!
