If you can’t see the ocean, should you still eat seafood? This is a question that I often ask myself as I am a big fan of seafood, and I live in Ohio. . . not close to an ocean!! I once asked this same question to my mom when she fell sick after eating seafood on a vacation in Colorado. She didn't find it amusing at that time! We are always on the lookout for new ways to cook fish, especially salmon. Plank Grilled Salmon is a must-try dish as it is both meaty and flavorful.
Is Salmon worth the trip?
I believe that it would be worth traveling to New Zealand to try their salmon (although I admit I may use any excuse to visit the country). However, I am referring to visiting our local "fish guy" who provides us with fresh seafood. During one of our recent visits, our "fish guy" recommended the New Zealand salmon that had just arrived, and we decided to give it a try by cooking it on cedar planks (which we now always keep on hand).
I've tried all sorts of salmon, from canned to King, and I've even tried canned King salmon. So, when I got the chance to try this new variety, I was pretty excited. And let me tell you, it didn't disappoint! It was so buttery, it almost tasted like someone had accidentally spilled butter on it. The flavor was mild, and it absorbed the smokiness of the cedar plank it was cooked perfectly. The skin isn't as crispy as when it is pan-seared, but for plank salmon it had great texture and flavor. Often, when using a cedar plank, the skin can fall apart or not crisp up well, but I've made this recipe several times now, and it's definitely the best way to grill salmon. It's the best of both worlds!
Plank Grilled Salmon: So Easy, So Delicious
Grilling salmon on a cedar plank is a great way to cook it. It's even easier than wrapping it in foil, and the flavors from the plank are amazing. To get the salmon at the perfect temperature, consider using a meat thermometer and cook the fish to 145 degrees if you want it medium. Don't forget to spray the cedar plank with olive oil to prevent the salmon from sticking to the board. Also, we coat the fish with the juice of a grilled lemon BEFORE adding the seasoning; this flavors the fish and helps the seasoning to stick to the fish.
We love to serve the Salmon with Cauliflower rice and sugar snap peas.
