Air Frying Wings
Since we are focused on losing weight and eating healthy, we no longer fry food. Well, maybe once a year, we'll fry some fish, but other than that, we have found adding spices to food really makes it taste better and much healthier. Years ago, for Christmas, Amy bought me an air fryer. So we have been trying different recipes in our new gadget.
***Update: Since this blog post was written, we have expanded our air fryer game and now do an air fryer series every February called "Air Fryer February." If you're interested in more air fryer recipes, make sure to sign up for our newsletter here.***
What we have found:
- The air fryer is really easy to use
- It does crisp up the food.
- If we want fried food, this will do the trick and doesn't add calories
Bake or Air Fry Sesame Chicken Wings
We wanted to see if there was a difference between baking wings and air frying them. So, we cooked the same recipe in both an air fryer and an oven. I will say that both wings turned out so delicious! The sweet and spicy sauce coated every crispy bite, and it was hard to stop eating them because of their amazing flavor and texture.

What we found between oven-baked and air fryer wings:
- They were crispier in the air fryer.
- They got darker in the oven.
- The flavor was more intense on the oven-baked wings
- With both ways, the wings were absolutely delicious
- On the second day, the wings from the air fryer were more flavorful
- The wings cooked faster in the air fryer
- Clean-up was a little harder in the air fryer. That's just because, with the oven-baked chicken, we just pulled off the foil and tossed the cookie sheet in the dishwasher.
- Wings from both the oven and the air fryer are GREAT with a nice cold beer!
Making Air Fryer Sesame Chicken Wings
So, to start, these flavorful sesame chicken wings first marinate with, among other things, garlic, soy sauce, honey, and peanut butter (yes, peanut butter). The wings should marinate for at least 30 minutes but are better if you can marinate them for a couple of hours. The last time we made this recipe, we marinated the chicken overnight. It made a HUGE difference in the flavor, and, we think, the chicken was actually juicier. So I highly recommend overnight marinade, but don't worry, if you don't have the time to let them sit overnight, they are still incredible if they only marinate for 30 minutes.
OUR HOMEMADE MARINADE
We had a ton of fun creating this marinade. If you want spicy wings, add additional cayenne pepper. The marinade is garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, honey, peanut butter, chili garlic sauce, onion powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
It's a really straightforward marinade to make, and the amount of flavor you get from it is beyond delicious!!!
Serve the wings with low-fat Ranch dip or Blue Cheese dip, Celery, Chicken Fingers, and Crunchy Baked French Fries.
I hope you try these wings. Let us know if you have a favorite Chicken Wing recipe, and please share it with us below, we would love to try them.
