We absolutely love Mexican food! The combination of various spices in Mexican cuisine is simply awesome. And since we're hooked to our air fryer, we decided to experiment with some fun Taquitos. Our first attempts included Chicken Taquitos and Buffalo Chicken Taquitos, and they turned out to be a huge hit! So we decided to try our luck with Steak and Cheese Taquitos and black bean taquitos, and they were equally delicious. We even tried baking them, and while it took a bit longer in the oven, they still turned out crispy and tasty.
Crispy Crunchy Steak And Cheese Taquitos
Making Taquitos is a fun activity, but the best part is definitely enjoying them! They are simple to prepare, and once assembled, can be stored in the freezer for a quick and delicious snack anytime.
GREAT TREAT
It's always nice to have friends over and offer them something delicious to eat. Of course, we always have wine available, but it's even better to provide an appetizer such as Steak and Cheese Taquitos. If you want your friends to return, that is. However, we have discovered, if you make too many appetizers and serve too much wine, your guests might never want to leave! Haha.
This homemade treat is a great option to offer kids when they come home from school. It is much better than the Taquitos purchased from the store. I strongly believe that anything made at home tastes better. Additionally, you can manage the calories, know the ingredients used, and it's usually more cost-effective than purchasing from the store.
How to make Steak and Cheese Taquitos:
Preparing all the ingredients before starting the recipe helps cut the stress when making any dish. Begin by cutting the steak into bite-size pieces. Heat olive oil in a saute pan and add the steak. Cook over medium heat. Once the steak starts to turn brown, add the Taco seasoning. This step should take less than 5 minutes. It's worth noting we love using homemade taco seasoning. It adds a nice flavor to the steak and cheese taquitos. The seasoning can be easily made and stored in the pantry, so its always available.
When the steak is completely browned. Add water and simmer until the water has evaporated. Remove from heat.
Spray the corn tortillas with cooking spray, place them on a microwave-safe plate, and microwave on high for 15 to 20 seconds to make them pliable for easy rolling without falling apart.
Shred the cheese and mix it with the cream cheese. Using cheddar cheese and Cream Cheese cuts the calories and really makes a nice creamy cheesy steak and cheese Taquitos.
Add about 1 ounce of steak and 1 Tablespoon of cheese to the center of the corn tortillas.
Overlap and roll tortillas together, securing them with toothpicks. We used two corn tortillas for each taco, but you can also use only one tortilla which works just as well.
To make crispy and delicious corn tortillas, start by spraying them with oil and placing them on a baking sheet or in the air fryer basket. Bake them in the oven for 12 to 15 minutes at 375 degrees, or air fry them for 7 minutes at 375 degrees. Keep an eye on them and remove them from the oven or air fryer once the tortilla is crispy and the cheese is melted and has a nice crunch with a gooey center.
Enjoy!!!!!
TIPS for Steak and Cheese Taquitos:
- To soften the corn tortillas so they don’t fall apart when rolling them. Simply spray them lightly with cooking oil and pop them in the microwave for 15 to 20 seconds. This will soften them up just enough to make them more pliable and easier to work with.
- If you prefer flour tortillas, you can still use the same method of spraying them with oil, but there's no need to microwave them. Once you've rolled your taquitos, give them a light spray of olive oil, butter spray, or your favorite cooking spray. This will help them crisp up nicely in the oven.
- To make sure you always have a quick and easy snack on hand, simply freeze your taquitos in a freezer-safe container or bag. Then you can pull them out whenever you need a tasty treat.
