Breakfast is the best meal of the day. At least that's what I say when it's something as good as this Sausage Broccoli Quiche. Being able to air fry quiche is kind of a game-changer. It's so much faster than baking in the oven. In fact, baking can take approximately 20 minutes longer.
The best part about quiche is it's great as a leftover. We love making this sausage broccoli quiche and then the next several days we have a very quick breakfast of yummy leftovers. The quiche can be heated up in the microwave, air fryer, toaster oven, or regular oven. Hey, it's even good cold!
How to make Air Fryer Sausage, Broccoli Quiche
For most recipes, I like to get everything ready before I start to cook. With this recipe, it's faster to get the crust ready and pop it in the air fryer to pre-cook. While the crust is browning, get all the ingredients out. This just saves a couple of minutes but there isn't any waiting time for the crust to finish.
To start, put the crust in a deep dish pie pan (Or if you are lucky enough to find frozen pie shells in the pans already, they'll work great!), just put a few fork pricks in the pie shell and pop it into the air fryer. Bake it in the fryer for about 10 minutes until the shell starts to get golden brown. NOTE: Just follow the package directions for the pie shell if you want to bake this instead of air frying.
Crustless Quiche
This quiche can also be made crust-less. Just spray the pie pan with cooking spray. Follow the same steps below to fill the pie pan with broccoli, sausage, egg, and cheese.
Preparing the Sausage Broccoli Quiche
Once the pie shell has browned remove it from the air fryer or oven and start to build the quiche.
This step can be done while the pie shell is browning: Cut the broccoli into bite-size pieces. Slice or chop the garlic. Cook the sausage in a saute pan. While the sausage is cooking, put about 3 cups of water in a separate saucepan and bring it to a boil. Add 2 teaspoons of salt and the cut-up broccoli to the boiling water. Blanche the broccoli in boiling water for 2 minutes. Remove from heat and drain.
When the sausage is done put it on a paper towel to soak up any excess grease then set it aside. Use the same pan that the sausage was cooked in (hey, one less pan to wash). Add a ½ tablespoon of olive oil to the pan and the sliced garlic. Saute the blanched broccoli and garlic for 2 to 3 minutes. Just until the broccoli is getting soft but still has a nice crunch.
Cheese and Eggs
Grate the cheddar cheese. Yes, there's cheese in this sausage broccoli quiche. We know that it takes a little extra time to grate cheese vs buying the already grated cheese. The freshly grated cheese always seems to have so much more flavor. And have you ever noticed how long the already-grated cheese lasts in the refrigerator? What is in that cheese that makes it last soooooooo long???? Anyway, our preference is to buy the cheese in blocks. Oh, the cheese in blocks is also a little cheaper than the pre-grated cheese.
Use a fork or whisk to beat the eggs. Once they have a nice texture and even yellow color they're ready to add the milk. Stir the milk into the eggs. Add the salt and black pepper (white pepper can be used I like the spice of black pepper). It's important to season the eggs at this point. I don't know about you but I really don't like eggs that haven't been seasoned.
When the pie crust has a nice light golden color remove it from the air fryer and start to assemble the Sausage Broccoli Quiche.
- Put the cooked sausage on the bottom of the crust
- Add the sauteed broccoli next
- Then the cheese
- Slowly pour the egg cheese mixture into the pie shell. I like to pour the eggs on the sides and let them fill around. You might have to separate some of the cheese with a fork when pouring the eggs to ensure it is evenly distributed in the pie shell.
- Place the quiche in the Air Fryer
Air Fry the Sausage Broccoli Quiche
Air Fry the quiche at 375 degrees for about 25 to 30 minutes. This all depends on the air fryer and, I think, sometimes the temperature in the house!!! I know that's crazy! I set a time for 25 minutes. If the quiche isn't finished set a timer for 3 to 5 minutes depending on how much more time is needed.
When the sausage broccoli quiche is done the top will be a nice golden color and when you jiggle the dish it should not have any liquid left. The eggs should be cooked and fluffy. I usually take a table knife and check to see if it's done in the center of the quiche. If the knife comes out dry then the quiche is done and ready to eat!!!!
Let the sausage broccoli quiche cool for a few minutes. Cut and enjoy. If you have leftovers the quiche is easy to heat up in the microwave, oven, or even the air fryer. This is one of our favorite breakfasts, especially the leftovers. It's as good the next day and such a fast breakfast. 30 to 60 seconds in the microwave and breakfast is ready!!!
