We were in need of some comfort food, and the first thing that came to mind was Biscuits and homemade Sausage Gravy for brunch or a nice weekend breakfast. We have been under a lot of stress trying to find a new house, especially because we aren't sure where we want to live. It's a nice problem to have, being able to choose where you want to live, but with four large dogs and house hunting five to eight hours away from where we are currently, it adds an additional layer of stress. You might be thinking, "Why not just buy a house close to where you live now?" The answer is simple: we want to live in the snow. I know it might sound strange, but we really miss the snow, and we love having the four seasons.
As an update, since we wrote this post, we have found the perfect house in NE Ohio. We have a 2+ acre lot, and we get tons of snow. Yes, we are right in the middle of the snowbelt. So we are super happy, and so are the dogs! Plus, we still enjoy Sausage Gravy with biscuits.
Pure Comfort Food
We believe that it is important to have comfort food, even if it's something like Sausage Gravy with Biscuits. To be successful with our diet, we know we still need to enjoy our favorite foods. We can't have them every day, and we need to account for what we eat. So, for special occasions like my birthday, I usually crave Sausage Gravy and Biscuits for breakfast. The sausage gravy recipe is also really amazing on mashed potatoes!!!! Yes, that's another weakness for us. HAHA
Easy Biscuit with Homemade Sausage Gravy Recipe
I am aware that homemade biscuits are easy to make. However, I have discovered that the frozen Pillsbury biscuits are just as good as homemade. Even though they lack the love that is put into homemade biscuits, I didn't want to spend a lot of time making our brunch. I was completely exhausted on Sunday but needed that hit of Sausage Gravy to ease my stress. At least we didn't have Bloody Marys! Preparing Sausage Gravy is super easy, but unfortunately, it is high in calories. We try to cut down on the calories even when making gravy. It's still not diet-friendly, but sometimes we just need to indulge in that special food.
Thinking about special food, check out our Air Fryer Country Fried Steak. This gravy is amazing with the steak.
Tips:
- If the sausage contains excess fat, it should be drained. A paper towel can be used to soak up the fat.
- For a rich and flavorful texture, sprinkle flour over the sausage and stir to coat it evenly.
- Instead of using cream, you can opt for low-fat or non-fat milk, which will save you a ton of calories.
- Adding Worcestershire sauce to the gravy will give it a savory and tangy flavor that will take your taste buds on a delightful journey.
These simple tips will help you cut down on calories and enjoy your sausage gravy without feeling guilty (well, not as guilty!) To cut a few more calories, you can switch out the traditional biscuits for a slice of white bread or a whole wheat English muffin.
