This sheet pan chicken thigh dinner recipe is bursting with flavor! The sweet sauce and spicy seasoning on the chicken are just perfect.
Plus, you'll know exactly what you're serving your family, and let's not forget the money you'll save by not eating out. I love cozying up at home, especially in the fall and winter, and this dish is just perfect for those nights. It's a bit out of the ordinary, but trust me, it's so delicious, and anyone can make it. No need for any special equipment unless you count a sheet pan as special! All you need is a sheet pan, chicken, spices, and the sauce. And we hope you will find this sheet pan chicken thigh dinner to be a favorite like it is for us.
We live in the suburbs, and it's such a pain to pick up takeout food. It takes at least 20 minutes to get to a restaurant. Can you believe that many places won't even deliver to our house? We always joke that they deliver to our neighbors. Maybe it's because of our dogs, haha. We always tip well, so it's not that! It’s unbelievable that it takes longer to go out and pick up some General Tso's than it does to make it at home. Oh, and don’t get me started on having to get dressed and usually take the dogs for a ride when we go out.
This is how easy it is to make Sheet Pan General Tso Chicken:
This isn't your traditional General Tso Chicken. I mean, it's all made on a sheet pan in the oven, not stir-fried, so there's very little clean-up. I always find that when making a stir fry, I end up with a mess on the cooktop. That's why we decided to make this Sheet Pan Chicken recipe. And let me tell you, it's absolutely fantastic!!!!
One of the best tips I can share for any recipe is to always gather all the ingredients as the first step. I even make it a habit to get out all the measuring spoons and cups before I start. This step is mainly because when we're filming to make the recipe, it always seems like the light stand is right in front of the drawer with the measuring spoons. HAHA
We put a lot of love and effort into crafting this seasoning mix for Sheet Pan General Tso's Chicken. It's a delightful blend of ginger, black pepper, cayenne, salt, and garlic powder. This seasoning brings out the best flavor in the chicken, giving it that wonderful General Tso taste in a convenient sheet pan recipe.
We really like using chicken thighs for this recipe, but chicken breast also works great and has amazing flavor. Just cut the chicken into bite-size pieces and toss them with the spices. A helpful tip is always to stir the spices together. I always cringe when I see the spices individually tossed on. Because it doesn't guarantee that all the spices will get on all the meat. So, when using a mix of several spices, they need to be mixed together first to ensure that every piece gets a bit of all the seasoning and every bite of the dish tastes the same
Sheet Pan Chicken Thighs Recipe
Place the cut-up chicken on a baking sheet. To make cleanup a breeze, consider covering the sheet with foil or a silicone sheet. Sprinkle the cut-up chicken with the seasoning mixture, toss it to coat, and then spread it out on the baking sheet. Finally, pop it in the preheated 400-degree oven.
While the chicken is baking, it's time to get the sauce and broccoli ready. Usually, we use our own amazing sauce recipe. But we recently found General Tso sauce at BJ's and thought we'd give it a try. The sauce is a bit sweet, so if you want more spice. Add some dried peppers and let them sit in the sauce while the chicken is cooking. This gives the sauce a nice kick, and if you eat one of them, it packs a ton of spice!!
Add the Broccoli to the sheet pan chicken thighs
Cut the broccoli into bite-size pieces and toss them with olive oil. I'll also start cooking the rice while the chicken is in the oven.
TIP: use the broccoli stems. They are super sweet and add so much flavor. Use a veggie peeler to remove the outer layer of the stems.
The sheet pan chicken thighs will take about 15 minutes to get almost done. When they're almost ready, toss the broccoli with a mix of ginger, black pepper, cayenne, salt, and garlic powder. Then, place the broccoli on the sheet pan with the chicken thighs and drizzle some delicious general Tso sauce over the top. Pop the chicken thigh sheet pan back in the oven and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
OPTIONAL: Sprinkle the top of the chicken thighs and broccoli with some sesame seeds.
TIP: Looking to cut some calories? Try serving the sheet pan General Tso chicken with cauliflower rice. Heat the cauliflower rice in a sauté pan with a tablespoon of olive oil. Add ¼ cup of water. Stir in a tablespoon of the seasoning mixture (ginger, black pepper, cayenne, salt, and garlic powder), and cook for 3 to 5 minutes.
Serve the Sheet Pan General Tso Chicken over rice or cauliflower rice. We hope you like this chicken sheet pan dinner as much as we do!
