We are always trying to find ways to cut calories. So often when adding condiments, like Tartar Sauce, to sandwiches we don't think about the amount of calories. But this is a great place to cut, and probably one of the fastest ways to cut fat and add flavor to a sandwich.

Tartar Sauce

We made this tartar sauce with Lite Sour Cream and, as you can see below, it saved over 1,000 Calories per cup of Tartar Sauce. By adding lemon juice to the sour cream you won't even miss the mayonnaise flavor.....And this is from someone that loves Mayonnaise! 😊

  • 1 Cup of mayonnaise has 1,495 Calories
    • And 1 Tablespoon of mayonnaise has 94 Calories.
  • 1 Cup of Regular Sour Cream has 445 Calories
    • A tablespoon of Regular Sour Cream has 23 Calories
  • 1 Cup of Lite Sour Cream is 313 Calories
    • A tablespoon of Lite Sour Cream is 16 Calories
  • 1 Cup of Non-Fat Sour Cream has 170 Calories
    • A tablespoon of Non-Fat Sour Cream has 9 Calories

To put this in perspective on calories. A person running a 10-minute mile for an hour covers six miles and burns about 600 calories in this calculation; a person running a 6-minute mile for that same amount of time runs 10 miles and burns 1,000 calories. Holy Cow you gotta run a long way and a long time to burn off those calories. I'm going with the Tartar Sauce!!!!

TIPS:

  1. Don't use Mayonnaise!!! Use Lite or Non-fat Sour Cream to make the Tartar Sauce.
  2. Measure everything
  3. Taste as you go

Fish Sandwich with Tartar Sauce

Crunchy Air Fryer Fish Sandwich with Tartar Sauce

One of our favorite Air Fryer recipes is a Fish Sandwich. When we were house hunting we did a lot of stops at fast food restaurants. Because we got tired of the typical hamburger we started ordering fish sandwiches. During one of these house-hunting trips we decided that once we got settled into our new house, we needed to make a homemade fish sandwich. And of course what else do we need. . .Tartar Sauce. So we came up with this great air fryer Fish Sandwich, French Fries and Tartar Sauce. Its easier to make at home and so much healthier, not to mention, it tastes so much better! 😃
