Ribs are always a summer must-have. We absolutely love grilling or baking them - they're just so delicious! There are so many types of pork ribs to choose from: baby back, spare ribs, St. Louis, and country ribs. Country-style ribs are usually the cheapest, and you get so much meat. Don't get me wrong, baby back ribs are fantastic, but country-style ribs are my top choice. They make for a wonderful Sunday dinner any time of the year and bring summer flavor to a winter day. Also, making these country-style ribs in the oven is so easy.
Country-style pork ribs are a fantastic alternative to traditional ribs. They are rich and tender and easily fall apart when cooked slowly in the oven. Plus, they are cheap, easy to make, and taste delicious when coated with your favorite BBQ sauce and baked until tender.
Smoke or Bake the Country-Style Ribs.
We love making this country-style ribs recipe in the oven and on the grill. When we grill, we enjoy using apple wood chips to smoke the ribs – it gives them an amazing flavor! It does take some time to smoke them, and when using a charcoal grill, we have to keep a close eye on it to make sure the fire doesn't get too hot or go out. Nevertheless, the great smoky flavor makes it all worthwhile!
We found that making the ribs in the oven makes them incredibly tender without any hassle. Adding smoked paprika to the seasoning infuses the ribs with a delightful flavor that truly enhances the overall rib-eating experience.
Making Country-Style Ribs in the Oven
We use the same spice mixture for the ribs if we are grilling or baking in the oven. The spices we love are 1 teaspoon each of garlic, cayenne pepper, black pepper, paprika, cumin, salt, and onion powder. This is enough seasoning for 3 to 4 pounds of country ribs.
Season the ribs and bake.
Mix the spices together. Place the country-style ribs in a casserole dish. Sprinkle the seasoning mix on top of the ribs. Add ¼ Cup of water to the dish. Cover with foil and place in 325-degree preheated oven for 2 ½ hours.
NOTE: Only season the top of the ribs.
BBQ Sauce Tip
Tip: Mix ¼ teaspoon of spices (garlic powder, cayenne pepper (if you want it spicy), paprika, mustard powder, and onion powder) in the BBQ Sauce. This enhances the store-bought BBQ sauce and brings these great flavors to the country ribs.
Remove the country-style ribs from the oven. It should be easy to pull the ribs apart with a fork. Using a basting brush, coat the ribs with the BBQ sauce. I used about a cup of BBQ sauce for the ribs.
To finish this country ribs recipe, place the ribs back in the oven for 30 minutes. Remove and add additional BBQ sauce if you want, or serve the ribs with some additional BBQ sauce on the side.
Enjoy these country-style pork ribs with your favorite veggies and rice or couscous.
