Ever since we started our diet, we have been experimenting with different ways to reduce our calorie intake while still enjoying delicious meals. We have found that a juicy grilled hamburger with lettuce, tomatoes, and Jalapeños is hard to resist. That's why we have come up with a recipe for a turkey cheeseburger that is bursting with flavor and is just as satisfying as a regular beef burger. The truth is, most turkey burgers are quite bland and unappetizing, but with our recipe, you can enjoy a tasty and healthy meal without sacrificing flavor.
I never thought I would love a TURKEY BURGER this much!
A Turkey Cheeseburger that will make you forget about beef hamburgers...FOREVER!!
This recipe includes a quick step to make the juiciest turkey cheeseburger at home without the additional fat that restaurants add. The secret to this recipe is sautéed spinach and fresh chopped mushrooms, which make these turkey burgers simple, flavorful, and a super moist alternative to beef burgers. Many recipes add butter and sausage to turkey burgers, which just adds unnecessary calories. Instead, we're using a two-step cooking process that guarantees a golden turkey cheeseburger on the outside with a juicy center inside.
Grill or cook on a cooktop
In my opinion, turkey burgers can taste as good as, if not better than, a regular burger. Don't get me wrong, I love a good beef hamburger, but if I have a turkey burger I can also have oven-baked French fries and not feel guilty. Turkey burgers are also a great way to switch it up and have half the amount of saturated fat and calories. So often when turkey burgers are prepared wrong they can, and will, become dry and tasteless. No one wants a bland burger and we have had our share of boring turkey. So, to jazz it up, we created a way to keep the burger juicy AND add more flavor.
The best part is you can cook them on the grill and get the smoky flavor or cook them in the house on that rainy day when you really want a burger.
The key to charcoal or gas grilling is to place the turkey burger on foil or a cast iron skillet so it doesn't stick to the grill. Make sure to spray the foil or pan with a little bit of olive oil.
How to make a Juicy Turkey Burger
Sauté the Spinach with a couple of cloves of roasted garlic. White turkey meat is very lean so it dries out easily and doesn’t offer much in the way of flavor. When I grill turkey burgers, I like to add some unexpected ingredients to the mix.
- Sauté fresh or frozen Spinach in ½ cup water, cumin, salt, pepper and some roasted garlic.
- Add Spinach mixture including remaining water to ground turkey (we use 99% fat-free turkey
- Finely chop baby Bella mushrooms and mix with turkey and spinach. The mixture will be VERY moist but don't worry, the moisture is what helps make the burger juicy.
- Form patties. Again, they will be very moist and feel like they will fall apart, but don't worry they won't-it's amazing! Place in pan or on the grill and cook. I use a meat thermometer to ensure the burgers get to 185 degrees (keeping them from being overcooked). Overcooking will dry out the burger.
- To save time while the burgers are cooking get the toppings ready.
- Time to make your turkey burger a TURKEY CHEESEBURGER by just melting your favorite cheese on the patty. I have to confess I love American cheese on my Turkey Burgers. I'm not sure what's in American cheese, but whenever we open the cheese slices, the dogs come running... FAST!. They will be at the end of the yard barking with the neighbors' dogs to running as fast as they can for a piece of cheese. It's AMAZING!!!
This is the best turkey burger and they are so SO juicy its hard to believe we made them using 99% fat-free ground turkey. We love having oven-baked French Fries with our Turkey burgers.
