- 9 Lasagna noodles
Preheat oven to 375 degreesHeat Olive Oil in a large Sauté pan and Add Onion and Garlic. Cook for about 3 minutes Add the ground Turkey (or Chicken) and Hot Italian Sausage to the onion and garlic in the sauté pan.
Add Spices to the ground turkey/sausage mixture. Cook until the meat is completely cooked through, about 5 minutes
When ground turkey and sausage are completely cooked, add the tomatoes, tomato paste, and 1 ½ cups of water
Bring the meat and sauce to a boil over medium-high heat (about 5 minutes). Turn down the heat and simmer the meat sauce mixture. Simmer for one hour until the sauce is thickened
DO NOT cook the Lasagna Noodles. Buy the regular lasagna noodles - NOT the oven-ready noodles. Put a layer of sauce on the bottom of the casserole dish. About 1 cup.
Then add a layer of noodles on top of the sauce. Add 1 cup of sauce on top of the noodles
Add ½ cup of the cottage cheese
Add Mozzarella cheese and parmesan cheese
Add another layer of lasagna noodles
Add turkey/sausage tomato sauce mixture
Layer more Cottage cheese, mozzarella, and parmesan cheese. Continue layering. The top of the lasagna is the Mozzarella and Parmesan Cheese
Add 1 cup of water
Cover with Aluminum foil and place in the refrigerator overnight. Tent the foil over the top of the lasagna. This is done so the cheese won't burn while cooking. Bake with foil tented over the lasagna for at least 50 minutes or until the lasagna is bubbling.
Remove the foil and cook for another 15 minutes or until the lasagna is golden brown
